In Hindi, 'dwar' means a door or a gate. Thus, this site (Raildwar) is a gateway to Indian Railways through the many sites to which links have been provided in these pages.

This portal had started in a small way with a site on the Geocities server, mainly containing links to official Indian Railways sites. Then gradually I became aware of the vast treasure-house of information contained in the various unofficial sites on Indian Railways. Most of these sites have been put up by members of Indian Railway Fan Club Association (IRFCA), a group of Indian Railways enthusiasts from around the world.It was at that time that I decided to expand this portal to include links to the unofficial sites on Indian Railways.

I hope that this collection of Indian Railways links will be useful for IR fans throughout the world.

While I was posted to Indian Railways Board a few years back, I also had occasion to develop and maintain a forum for IR users and stakeholders (irsuggestions.org), which eventually led to a lot of interesting discussions on various issues pertaining to IR. Some of the suggestions on that forum were even found useful by IR Administration at that time. For a vaiety of reasons, that forum had to be discontinued. I have now attempted to revive that forum through the IR Community forums on this site. I hope that the discussions on these forums (which are more structured this time) would continue to be as interesting and even more useful.
